Yep! until someone hurts themselves because they havn't listened to me. Fortunatly i am not on the front line to often which enables me to enjoy the job which has its humerous side.
Did you know that in UK offices over 400 people a year are injured using a 'hole punch' how????, 1300 a year using rubber bands!!! with correction fluid or tippex claiming over 100 people, the mind boggles.

All good fun!

I didn't do anything! I follow all the correct OSH (ocupational health and safety) guidelines, and I drive and deliver in a very sfe and controlled manner!

Please dont prosocute me.

(you don't know ppl doing your job in NZ do you?? because stepping down onto a steel step carrying 40kg of bread can be a bit tricky when its wet )

People

I just do relief work for one of the contractors, and have as little to do with the bakery as I can. But its the largest in NZ, and makes about 750,000 units a day. (it runs 24hrs)
I drive an 8 ton Mitsubishi Canter, its not big by truck standards, but big enough.
However the work is not covered at all by and form of safety inspections, and when its wet and slippery can be just a little dangerous. Iv fallen out of the back of the truck 2 or 3 times.
If someone from OSH was to find about the weights I lift, and how slippery it can get there would be alsorts of trouble. (hence the little paranoid joke above )

And I find its generaly its finest at 3am, it dosnt start raining here untill closer to 4-5am.

Moppie,

In the UK, legislation dictates that all employees have a 'duty of care' to themselves. This means that whilst your employer has to ensure you are properly trained for the task, and that they have carried out a risk assessment, you have a responsibility to abide by the training given and not to put yourself in any aviodable danger. Once you have injured your back, it will never be the same, and you rarely get any thanks for finshing your round early.

In the UK we have The Manual Handling Regulations 1992 which set out guidlines for employers on what should be considerd when a manual handling task is involved in the job, and as a guideline suggests that a fit male should not lift more than 25kg in any single lift. There are other factors to consider as well like type of load, distance of carry, route taken, etc, but that is just to boring.

OK if something did happen you may be able to sue the company for any injuries, but money won't fix a dodgy back, which will stop you doing the more fun things in life, and you need to be sitting to play GT3 properly

Sorry if this all sounds a bit preachy but i have seen it happen.

I've seen this kind of thing happen, too. Or a knee, or an ankle, or... Like Mutely says, it's never the same again and when you get older (I'm serious) old injuries have a way of haunting you.

Be careful!

The rules are little differnt down here.
ALL the responsiblity is placed on the employer. If someone was to fall into an oven at the bakery becasue they were acting like and idiot the bakery would get fined.
Im in a slightly differnt position as I contract to the contractor. So in a way Im sort of self employed.

But I look after my back. I look like a bit of a cock bending my knees to pick stuff up off the floor (the bread trays are pretty big and im only a little guy).
But the truck is at just the right height that I can lift 40+kgs off the back of it with out having to bend down. Then drop the whole lot in the shop so again I don't have to bend. Iv been doing it part time for nearly 2yrs now and have yet to have even a mild strain from lifting.

So guys, w.t.f. is this thread?

I never visited it because the name "Driver BIOS" conjured images of Assembly Code routines, UART chips, and "How my PC communicates with its keyboard".

But I couldn't believe such a thread would be so active, so I took a look ... and it turns out to be a "Health and Safety At Work" thread. Lol. That rules me out!

Oh, I get it! It started life as a "WhoTheFRU" thread

OK, I'll post ...
Name: Graham
Age: Thirty-something (for a couple more weeks)
1 wife, 2 kids (ages 10.5 & 6.999)
Employment: none - used to work in microchip design (the silicon kind, not the McCain kind), hope to work again soon ...
Occupation: Spare time (as in "TT/S-License for your spare time")
First GT experience: GT on PSX
GT3 precis: bad at racing, not bad at hot laps, stubborn about 100% win ratio and about not buying a car.
Other games enjoyed: Crash Bandicoot, Summoner, Abe's (before Oddworld Inhabitants $old their $oul to $atan)

PS.
BILBERRY a.k.a. BLACK WHORTLE a.k.a. TRACKLEBERRY (wasn't he in Police Academy?) http://www.botanical.com/botanical/mgmh/b/bilber37.html

Good for Jam. Also good for diarrhoea. (Yes, 'diarrhoea' does have an 'o' in it. No, Americans can't spell. )

Whats wrong with 12 hour shifts? You come home, eat, crap, shower, go to sleep. You wake up with exactly enough time to put on pants, get a sandwich consisting of bread and nothing, and truck back off to work. Thats why I now live with my mom and my bro. 35 hours a week gets us by, and I have all the free time i need!!!!!

I used to work the 12 hours two, and i didn't mind, because your making 600 or so a week and it adds up quick. But 600 bucks a week and no time to spend it, just wasn't working for me. I'd actually rather the 200 bucks, free time, and less hours. I'm a janitor though, so I'm alone most nights, which is fine by me!! It still doesn't compare to getting payed millions and driving a stock car though eh?

I think I've been here long enough, maybe I should get on with this

    Name: Kyle
    DOB: June 29, 1986 (17)
Occupation: Student, obviously. Part-time work at Arby's... it's something.
GT: Been on it since July 98, back with a non DS controller. Got GT2 Dec 31/99, and a DS. Picked up GT3 20 minutes after they put them out in EB... and didn't get a PS2 until three months later
Setup: Since the Momo Racing isn't compatible with PS2, I'm still all digital... although I've been fiddling with the sticks in GT2 recently (see Diary thread).
GT Achievements: If I'm not mistaken, I was first Canadian to achieve all gold in GT3 over at the GTF thread, but due to my lack of net connection at the time, posted the news a bit late. Oh, and golds in all three games. Other than that, and the occasional OLR win, nothing.
Other Interests: F12k2 Mods (although I seem to paint more than race), The Sims, web/graphic design, my music collection.
Drives: Nothing really, haven't found the need in the city. Although if I were, it'd be the '95 Integra.
Added Junk: Lost internet connection back in June 2001, surfed sporadically from various locations, got a job earlier this year, and bought myself DSL. Been happy since

Didn't you run that one (and forgive me for not remembering the name - I just remember that it was good!) where you had a bunch of cars/tracks and you chose when to run which car? Had a snazzy website!? What the devil was that called now?

Oh - and if it wasn't you

Hmmm, I don't remember running any successful series for more than half a season...

Although, since Tripod doesn't like to delete their sites, I did find the two series I built quick little webpages for...

    http://tscseries.tripod.com/TSCFrames.html
    http://gtfantasycareers.tripod.com/GTFCFrames.html

Ah, and the odd spot race here and there, and helped bring GTXR back, only to see it die when it's creator vanished

I think I know which series you're talking about, yet I too cannot remember the name. Maybe some searching throughout the GTF will bring that into light.

    Thanks anyways though

May as well give up the info now....

    Name: Dan

    DOB: April 1969

    Occupation: Truck Driver, U.S. Foodservice

Marital Status:Married 3.5 years, 2 Step-Children - 14 year old girl, 11 boy and 2 with my wife - 2 year old boy, Dan Jr. and Alex who is just about 7 months old

GT: Bought GT when it first out, wanted to drive "real" cars not just supercars. When GT2 came out I bought it out of the SONY reps hand. Was a little slow in getting GT3, but finally got it in March 2003.

Setup : DS2, nothing more. I sit about 6 feet away from a 27" Sony when I play.

GT Achievements: One glorious win in the GTRC in my 2nd season, other than that I cheer the Numbers teams on in the board challenges

Other Interests: My kids, I am a board member with my local Little League, and coach my step-son. I also am his Coach for wrestling, which was the better of my sports in high school. I also Bowl(188 average this past year), golf(I suck), play Indoor Soccer in the winter with my wife, and play softball for my wife's work in the summer.

Drives: Don't laugh. My car- 1991 Toyota Corolla, 205,000 miles on it. Bought it from my Mother-in-Law for $500 4 years ago. right now it has one small hole in the exhaust so you can hear me coming. Family car - 1997 Mercury Villager, which I actually love, best vehicle I have ever owned. If I had one car that I would own, It'd be a 1978 Trans Am. Loved them ever since Smokey and the Bandit.

    Guess that's it.

I would never laugh at a fellow AE92 driver

My GT-S coupe has over 210,000 miles on it, and I bought her off a lady that lived about an hour away for $3200... and she was a pretty good buy... 'course now I've driven her all to hell and she needs some lovin'... and I've got a hole in my exhaust too

    Mmmmm... Corollas

and I'm sure you could find a 4A-GE of some sort there in/around Sydney if you looked in the right places. Depending on my finances I may be looking around for a 4A-GZE or a -GE 20-valve within the next few years
