Rallying is getting better but it is not easy to take being 10+ seconds a lap slower at Swiss Alps than GT3.

The Mitsubish Lancer Evolution IV Rally Car '97 and the Ford Escort Rally Cars are both too much for the Varietta and too weak for the CZ-3 but if you get the Lancia Delta Rally Car add 170 ballast to your Mitsubishi CZ-3 Tarmac car for 230hp/200 A-spec win and against the Subaru Impreza Rally Car '99 add 180 ballast for a 230hp/200 A-spec win.

Swiss Alps Hard Forward:

Now it gets very interesting as you can come up against the Lancia Delta S4 Rally Car which would be unbeatable if the AI could drive, luckily they cannot drive. With Turbo 3, Race Intercooler, Race Muffler, ROM and a bit of luck, the S4 can be beaten. Against the Lancia Stratos Rally Car '77 add Sports Muffler and 200 ballast for a 241hp/200 A-spec win, for the Impreza Rally Car '03 add Sports Muffler + ROM for a 251hp/200 A-spec win, and for the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution Rally Car '03 add Sports Muffler for 241hp/200 A-spec win.

I tried to give the maximum car that can be used and still yield a 200 A-spec race. Many of these races can be won with less car if you want a more challenging race. And there may be a few other opponents showup but theses scenarios should cover most of them and minimize the number of race reloads needed to get a race you want to run.

The Yosimite I races were tougher but they have now fallen in the 200 A-spec hunt. The Varietta was able to conquer the first 4 races and the CZ-3 finished off the hard races. The car matchups have not changed much over Swiss Alps so I will not duplicate that info here. The Swiss Alps info can be used as a guideline.

I also ran the first two wet races at Tsukuba where the Varietta prevailed on easy and the CZ3 conquered the normal race. But I need to get something with more ponies to tackle the R8/787B.

And.... Just for fun because I love the track soooooo much, I took on the Super Rally cars at Tahiti Maze/reverse in the Tahiti Rally Hard races. The CZ-3 needs full mods against all but the Renault Maxi 5 Turbo Rally Car. And the Renault is the opponent of choice, I used the CZ-3 with Turbo 1 + ROM + Sports Muffler and an 80 ballast setting. The Renault gets off the line slow so it is easy to get ahead and stay there. Stay to the inside and you will keep it behind you and if you are smooth enough you can even pull away.

Next I took my Miata S Special did a bit of sport tuning(ROM, Sports Muffler and NA1) and polished off the FR races. It was too easy actually. So I have now run 31 races at 200 A-spec points for a total of 14,700 A-spec points.

Hmmm! Where to go next?

An interesting note for me is that in my first run through GT4 I achieved only 23,000+ A-Spec points. I did a large amount of B-spec racing with B-spec miles being about triple my A-spec miles plus at some of the races I obviuously just wanted them "over". I am currently at 17.8% completion and I have 20,400+/- A-spec points. Quite a contrast there.

I need to pick up one more Toyota Triathlon Car in the 4WD cup and then I will probably go back to the SC Hall.

Thumbs up to Lugs for his progress there, I too have been thinking that total 200 point completion may be possible there also. But that Paris race will be a tough one.

I am now upto 627 cars in Arcade mode.

My GF has been having alot of fun racing the various Miatas which got me intrigued doing some long distance close racing. I was wondering how many A-spec points you can get out of the Miata Enduro and how close of a battle can you put together. After a couple of days of testing I ran this race:

Roadster 4hr Endurance: 145 A-spec points

Mazda Miata J-Limited '91(Used) @ 108hp and 200 kg of ballast. With S1 tires on the front and S2's on the back I had even wear front to back during the race. The leftside tires wore a bit quicker than the rights but I was able to run for 28 laps between pits for a total of 6 pitstops for the Enduro. My main competition the 1.8RS pitted 4 times, about every 40 laps, most of the Miatas seem to run about the same pitstop stratgy, but........... and, I did not keep track of the other cars but I am thinking one of them only pitted 3 times as there was one Miata that pitted way after all the others.

Notice no 1800RS wich is only worth about 10 A-spec points and runs laps around 1'10 which requires too many A-spec reducing mods to beat and no '89 or '91 miatas wich cost you about 5 points if they are in the race. The 1.8RS runs laps in the low 1'13 range at its best and the other Miatas run mid to high 1'13's.

My best lap was 1'12.455.

I won by 35 seconds but it was much closer racing than that as my 1.8RS competition did not deal with traffic in the second half of the race very well. Through the first half of the race I was down by 2 seconds and not sure if I could actually win. But once the 1.8RS and I started lapping traffic I was able to pull out a bit and then gradually increase my lead.

There might be a few more points available with a bit of tweaking but I am happy with this result. I did try Normal tires but the decrease in performance did not seem to offset the A-spec point gain. I also experimented with all of the Miatas with the thought that one of the heavier ones might be the way to go but they seem to have to many ponies under the hood. A possible candidate may be the 1600 NR-A if you run it until the oil is black first. I was going to try that also and put about 2000 miles on one only to have it drop a couple of ponies, so that may be a project for a later day.

Notes

1. Nitrous has NEVER been used.

2. A question mark (?) indicates that I either cannot remember the car I used (Alzheimer’s) or that I cannot deduce the car I used based on mileage,

3. A-Spec points shown may vary depending on the competition, tires used and / or car modifications made, but it shouldn’t be too difficult to figure it out. Remember that in many races it is possible to get a ‘tougher’ or ‘easier’ field by resetting the race,

3. I almost always use all non A-spec point affecting modifiers and many times even tuned the cars to make them more drivable. Some are a bear to drive with full ballast.

4. I tried to use minimal power modifications but….. Where power modifiers were used it should be obvious in the context of the overall series points. And you can check my diary for more car spec information. (plug!)

5. Ballast is used often to enable higher points. If you experience point values significantly less than shown here it is a fair bet that ballast is the cause.

6. Further details of AI, car set-up & modifications and race detail can be found in my diary (double plug!)

7. I tried to drive realistically and to OLR racing standards in all races but was willing to fight back in the SC Hall races where the AI leaned on me often and heavily. Also many of the races were one shot runs so so there was occasionally some incidental contact or an off.

I did manage to emulate Lugs and pickup 121 A-spec points in the Truck races.

And I have all Beginners race prize cars in every available color.
