Congrats miko, excellant job. Someday I will get the gumption to try again but for now I could not go through the chance of not finishing the race again.

”To acquire knowledge, one must study; but to acquire wisdom, one must observe [and listen]”

To that end I have followed up on the leads / tips and adventures of my erudite comrades and added a speedy 250 points.

Firstly, 52 points were added in the Saleen S7 by taking SSR5 and Infineon on N3 tires to take these races to 134 points each. El Capitan was previously won at 161 points on N2 tires, but I have not been able to convert the Sarthe and Suzuka races to ‘N’ victories so these remain at 108 points each.

Next, The Audi A3 races, at least Suzuka East and Midfield, were increased to 131 points each on N3 tires, but again a sweep was not attained, with Laguna Seca holding out at 111 points due my inability to overcome the rolling start deficit on N tires. Still, that’s another 40 points.

Lastly, and most profitably, I returned to the Audi TT races. When I previously ran these I used the old black oil TT from the second-hand lots in ‘as bought’ condition (except for throwing on ballast). That meant no rigidity refresher, S2 tires and clunky transmission, suspension and brakes. This time I went to town on the mods and upgraded everything, but I did not apply the rigidity refresher as I wanted to keep the TT somewhat ‘loose’. I applied some minor spanner work to the LSD, cut the brake balance to 1/1, shifted the weight balance towards the rear, and most importantly, adjusted the VCD to maximize torque at the rear wheels. We now have a totally different car, where understeer is minimized, tire wear is somewhat balanced, and the ‘driving on cobblestones’ feeling has been removed. This led to a sweep of the series on N3 tires for 170 points each race and a very nice injection of 158 points to my total.

I guess I have to share the prize ‘Vette with Lugs and LDM now – LOL!

The point’s total has reached 99,775. I now have the luxury of being able to be very selective about the races I choose to attain the remaining 225 points. No more 24 hour races , and no more F1 . R&R made an interesting comment that hitting the 100k mark should be done in a car / race combination that is worthy of the feat. I need to think about this a little but have already crossed Citroen, Daihatsu and Hyundai off my list .

For now…

PS: SportWagon – your assumption is correct.

PPS: R&R – I’m actually worried that the ‘CSI’ body is that of Britta as she went for her 5th conquest at the ring. Go Hans Stuck .

PPPS: LDM – wimp!

A quick Google for "Britta Nurburgring", in English only, found the following, which is almost certainly irrelevant. What a pretentious name for their business in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Perhaps people who read German can track down more.

Following on from my last post, I tried to squeeze a few more points out of the manufacturer’s races and increased the BMW 1 Series to 123/123/131 (an increase of 47 points); the Crossfire Trophy races to 132/73 (I added 30kg to go with the S1/S3 tires ) / 132 (an increase of 53 points); took the Camaro IROZ to El Cap for 180 points on N2/N3 tires with 200kg of ballast (an increase of 40 points); and completed the sweep in the Vette! Vette! Vette! races by winning New York in the C1 (an increase of 13 points).

This took me to 99,928 points and my ‘Swan Song’ race became clear. I also noted that I had completed 1,496 races so my OCD kicked in and I ran duplicate 200 point races in the C1 ‘Vette at LS, EC and Infineon, just for fun, and also to take my race total to 1499.

The last race in this endeavor was to be the Suzuka 1000km, 172 laps of one of my favorite circuits in the game, in one of my favorite classes of car – mid powered race cars, yeah! In looking for something different I tried the Renault Clio Race Car (a pink #99!!!) and, although I took an early lead, the minimal wing (check it out) left the Renault wanting once the AI had warmed their tires.

With failing patience and waning imagination, I jumped into the Wedssport Celica (I think any one of the JGTC 300 cars would suffice here) and completed an easy 200 point victory by +1 lap over the Honda Loctite Mugen NSX (JGTC) ’01; +1 lap over the Toyota au Cerumo Supra (JGTC) ’01; +2 laps over the Nissan Pennzoil Zexel GT-R (JGTC) ’01; +3 laps (?) over the Honda NSX-R Prototype LM Race Car ’02; and +4 laps (?) over the Audi A4 Touring Car ’04. Total race time was 6:06’36.290 and fastest lap was 2’03.460.

That’s it then, 100,000 points and 330 ‘200-point’ races and all house-rules intact – no Dodge Ram and nonitrous. As a future reminder of the race that took me to this landmark, I’ll just post a few photos from lap 1 of the Suzuka 1000km. My next post will transpose the ‘roadmap’ to 100k, and the post after that will show the status screens.

The following tabulates one route to achieving 100,000 points – without using the Dodge Ram, and without using nitrous. This is a transposition of the table in the Resource Section and represents a collective effort by a number of members of GTBN, but special mention needs to go to Lugnut and LaughterAndMirth – thanks guys. The overall essence of this ‘roadmap’ is to use cars that are in the general spirit of the races they participate in. You’ll find this challenging, fun, competitive and very satisfying. Good luck.

Congrats miko! You have some very nice symetry there.

And I am finally beginning to catch up a little I am 'only' 40,000 points behind you now. hehe...

Awesome, congrats again.

Well done. Actually amazing from where I stand.

Though I had timidly thought of suggesting there were a few points for you to make in the BMW 1 Series. I.e. and it turned out you say there were.

Is it now time to train your B-spec driver? I hadn't realized you hadn't B-spec'd the 24 hour races at all!

Congratulations, Miko! An awesome accomplishment in itself, but even moreso because of your (shared) efforts to make it available to all of us. You have my respect and admiration!

Excellent work, Mister Vice President.

I could never do that. I tried some 100-some-odd-point action in Special Conditions a while back and I couldn't even get close to the leader.

I'm so terrible at this game now.

Panic not, Santi. Even rusty as you are (or say you are, you big sand-bagger), I'm fairly certain you'll be showing me the way to go in the RRRRRRRRRR RR R championship.

A belated congrats to you too, Miko. I would have said a big 'WOW!' sooner, but I've been away on business - to Texas no less! Dallas, so nowhere near enough to drop in and see the screen shot with my own eyes unfortunately...

The statistic of all of those above that impreses me most is the 100% win ratio - considering how many races you've done and how much experimentation you've had to do in pursuit of high A-specs, that must have been an awful lot of reset/reloads. As well as some top skillz, you must have the patience of a saint!

Thank you all very much...

It's been my privilege to write this diary here at The Numbers, and I'm honored to have the audience I've had...

Reference console resets - more than I can count - probably a higher number than miles driven ...

'g - you should have said. A couple of hundred miles is nothing in driving terms over here and I would have happily driven to Dallas for dinner and a beer - there's a great micro-brewery in Dallas. It would take me less than 3 hours - 2 hours if the 'Vette had been delivered - 48 hours if we had a hurricane approaching

Take note for the next time you're over. There are also a number of members who live in North Texas who I'm sure would have enjoyed seeing you as well. Oh well - next time eh!

I should apologise then - I looked up Woodland, TX on good old Multimap before I left for the States with a view to suggesting a beer-based catch-up, but thought 'Nah, that's miles away'. Of course, I was thinking with my UK driving head on - that'd be like going from Newcastle to London and back again for a pint - particularly as I was effectively immobile so wouldn't have been able to meet you half-way (you know what it's like at these conferences in foreign cities, the company arranging it all effectively holds you hostage, ferrying you from the hotel to the conference centre and to the restaurant in the evening). To quote David Brent, I shouldn't have assumed, because assuming makes an ass of u and me.

Well, as I say, I do apologise and will definitely speak up next time I happen to be passing within a 'Vette-able distance (assuming it's arrived by that time, of course ). I think the corresponding conference next year is being held in Chicago - now my US geography is pretty shaky but I'd be surprised if that was worth your while driving to, even if there was a cold Shiner Bock waiting at the other end...

Believe it or not I've done it - a couple of times - it's about 1,100 miles - best time was around 17hrs - towing a boat!

I wouldn't do it in the 'Vette though as you go through Blytheville, AR. Scary place - even at 'Vette speeds I'd be afraid of losing my wheels - especially after dark .

It's wierd crossing the Mississippi into South Illinois and seeing you first roadsign - Chicago: 357 miles! After what seems like an eternity you see your next one - Chicago: 348 miles! LOL!

I'll be in Chicago for next year's AGM during August - and I hope to drag Lugs out on the town

A belated congratulations, Miko!

And it is just so you to have: (i) finished on a lengthy enduro, and (ii) hit the 100k mark to the very point.

I'd have liked to have been the first to congratulate you, but alas, I was on the road again (3 of the last 4 weeks).

Thanks Lugs - you were with me at the end - in spirit .

I'm pleased to hear from you as I was getting worried. Won't you come and play OLR with me? I'll play nice - honest. LOL!

Congratulations again, and thanks for all the detailed notes which can help others get mild gratification by using a high-scoring car choice for a series, even if their total will likely never be terribly high.

But I had another question. How many memory cards did you use? Did you ever abandon a series, and then restart from a save made previous to starting the series (hedging your bets)? Hmm. I guess instead of abandonning with a car, you could probably just finish up with more mods and fewer A-spec points? And thinking about it, I'd guess withdrawing from a series doesn't affect your percentage anyway? (I.e. it will not count as a loss).

So, my question boils down to...
Did you complete every series you entered, or did sometimes abandon a series for strategic reasons?

Oh. And wow. You used a DS2. So the fact I don't own a DFP can't be my excuse.

I ran two memory cards - a primary and a back-up. I 'refreshed' the back-up every 10k points or so up until about 90k, and then started doing it much more frequently.

If I wanted to buy and test numerous different cars for a particular race or series, I would use the back-up until I decided which car I wanted to use - then switch to the primary card, buy the car, and overwrite the back-up to remove all of the purchases / tests.

Re abandoning Championships - as you rightly point out you can abandon a Championship between races without it affecting your win ratio - and I did this on few occasions. The times that spring immediately to mind are the first time I entered the Pan Euro (in the Yellow Bird) and the BMW M Series. At this early stage of the game I didn't have a clue how to drive the Nürburgring and got royally trounced, so I reset, and abandoned. The only time I did it late in the game was at the PD Cup where running the Element at Motorland was frustrating me too much.

In general if the series was a Championship, I would enter as a Championship and run all races in sequence. The primary reason for this is that it gave me the option of qualifying on pole should I choose to. The only exceptions to this that I can recall were my second runs at the F1 races in LM cars - although first time through I ran all 15 races one after another.

I hope this answers your question.
