Day 59
Prize Cars Won: 1 (Jay Leno Tank Car '03 : Missions 11-20 Complete)

Happenings:
Completed Missions 18, 21, 22, & 23.

Thoughts:
M18 wasn’t too bad once I learned the track well enough. The Slipstream Battles are pretty monotonous and easy so far. *yawn* Only one more to go.

Day 63
(GT Day 352)
Game status: 11.3%/40/41/97.5%/173,650/26/8009/153/743/10/8/6
Prize Cars Won: 1 (Honda S800 RSC Race Car '68 : World Compact Car Race)

Happenings:
Completed Mission 26.
I needed the S800 Race Car for a spot race, so I had the walrus drive the Professional Hall’s World Compact Car Race in my fully-modded Kusabi. He did fine on S3 tires for Race 1, so I tried S2s on the rest of the races. He took first place in all (by about 30 seconds) eggcept Race 5, where he came in second place. I had him run that one (Twin Ring) again with S3s (and a touch of ASM & TCS) and the walrus won handily.

I've done a buncha stuff since my last update, but I didn't write any of it down...
- Completed all missions except 34.
- Tried 34 a couple more times, and decided I need to practice in arcade a bit. Went to the dealership to buy (whatever car is this mission...) I found out it's 610,000 (?), and I only have about 150,000. So on with the game I go...
- Special Conditions events: Finished several of these, don't remember which ones. I know they did a number on my win%.
- B-Spec: as much as I could... Clubman Cup, and 3 or 4 other events, can't remember. Currently The Walrus is in the middle of the All Japan GT Championship or some such thing in the Japanese hall.
- Pretty much stopped paying attention to A-Spec and B-Spec points. I just want to complete the game as fast as possible so that I can fill my garage for OLR. I'll still keep track of these points, for novelty if nothing else.
- Spending my Cr's on tuning upgrades almost as fast as I'm winning them, trying to get my completion% (currently around 20) over 25 so I can B-spec some endurance races. lol

Thanks Mark. Glad I could help.

The Walrus got murdered in the All JGTC (in the OPTION Z), so I'll have to run that again tonight myself.

Days 64-73
(GT Day 497)
Game status: 22.4%/95/124/76.6%/134,250/44/9838/261/3664/48/36/32
Prize Cars Won: 18 (shown below)

Happenings:
None of these career races are very memorable, I'm just enjoying driving the various cars and winning even more cars.
Since my top priority is to complete the game 100% (for OLR purposes), and my immediate goal is to win 600K for that darned Mission 34 car, my average A-Spec points per race are around 10. With all that in mind, I'm posting what I've completed in a different format this time around:

MR Challenge -Beginner : Lotus Esprit Turbo HC '87
Missions 25-29 : Toyota 7 Race Car '70
Race of Red Emblem -Nissan : Nismo GT-R LM Roadgoing Version '95
Clubman Cup -Pro : Mazdaspeed Atenza '05
All Japan GT Chamionship -Japan : Nissan Motul Pitwork Z(JGTC) '04
Japanese Compact Cup -Japan : Honda Life Step Van '72
Tsukuba Wet Race Easy -SC : Mazda RX-8 Concept (TypeI) '01
Rally D'Umbria Easy -SC : Cadillac Cien Concept
Rally D'Caburi Easy -SC : Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car '02
Rally Grand Canyon Easy -SC : Ford RS200 '84
Ice Race Easy -SC : Toyota RSC '01
Rally D'George 5 Easy -SC : Alpine A310 1600 VE '73
Rally Swiss Alps Easy -SC : Mitsubishi CZ3 Tarmac
Rally D'Caburi Normal -SC : Subaru Impreza Rally Car Protorype
Rally Grand Canyon Normal -SC : Mitsubishi CZ-3 Tarmac Rally car '02
Tsukuba Wet Race Normal -SC : Mazda Atenza Touring Car
Rally D'Unbria Normal -SC : Lancia Delta HF Integrale Rally Car '92
Tuned Car -Pro : Nissan Option Stream Z '04

Thoughts:

I think I have enough cars upgraded now to complete a good portion of the game without spending my credits as I earn them, or living paycheck-to-paycheck as the saying goes.

Ryan, Run this race 3 times (Rally D'Caburi Easy -SC : Toyota RSC Rally Raid Car '02) and sell the 3 cars and you'll have enough money to by the McLaren SLR/ Mission 34 car. Better yet, sell the 3 cars and buy a German Touring Race car and run the DTM series once and you'll have enough money.

Thanks for the tip Jim, but I hope to not sell any cars unless I have duplicates (at least for now.)
I do have 600k now, though.
I finally unlocked the Endurance Hall. The walrus won the Grand Valley one last night with the Zonda LM car (1100 HP or so on Super-Hard Racing tires,) and he's currently tackling Laguna Seca. B-Spec and 2-player are basically the only two game modes I play on the weekends.

I'm getting used to this B-Spec business.
The walrus finished almost all events in Endurance Hall (eggcept 24-hr and car-specific ones) with my trusty Zonda RC. I actually used Racing Mediums (not Super-hard as I'd previously stated) where appropriate, and used Soft front and hard rear Sports tires on the races that required them.
Now I'm up around 1.4 million Cr's (after purchasing the SLR McLaren) and I'm trying to B-Spec just about every race in the game, as I'm bored with career mode and anxious to delve into full-time OLR.

I've completed Beginner League, Pro League, and most of the European, American, and Japanese Events. I also dabbled in some manufacturers' races. I'm somewhere around 45% complete now.
The Lotus Elan S1 '62 did very well in B-Spec at all the European events it was eligible for. The walrus put a lot of miles on the Minolta too.
I've bought two more cars (making 3 total) : some Ford Lightning pickup for the Beginner Truck series, and a Ruf RGT for the Pro Boxer event.
Updating the front page (cars in my garage) seems like an unsurmountable task at the moment, maybe when I know more about what I've completed. As for the Numbers on the front page, maybe I'll update those tomorrow.

Jeff/KidA is closing down goldjunkies.com due to lack of traffic, so I'll copy what I have done in the Mission Guide so far here.
Cheers to Jeff for maintaining that site up until now, and to Ramon/eclipsee for helping it get started, and to The Missing Link for the GT3&4 Gold Medal Guides (maybe he wrote more, but those are the only GT games I've owned.)

As for the Driving Missions, The Missing Link wrote the first 10 and Santiago22 also wrote 1 to help move me along. For their assistance I am deeply grateful. After finishing 33 Missions and doing write-ups for almost half of them, I dropped everything to focus on passing Mission 34, which I've never done yet. I'm going to re-dedicate myself to completing the Mission Guide and Mission 34 (in that order) immediately following BC5. I'll have what I've written so far transferred here in the next couple days. I was going to do it all just now, but then I decided on this long-winded post instead.

As for this diary, I'm sure at least one or two people have thought about one of the following questions (not that they necessarily care, but maybe they were just wondering.) "Is eggmann ever going to finish his game? Is he already done B-speccing the rest of the game? Is eggmann ever going to post in his diary again? Is he going to at least update his 1st posts on the 1st two pages? Is he ever going to leave? His diary's damn boring."

So here I am to say that I won't permanently leave the "diary scene" so easily. Once I complete the mission guide, I'll get back to posting in here about my game, whether that be GT Mode events or OLR. I'm currently undecided about whether I'll continue to complete the game 100% to unlock everything for OLR, or start over and try all-A-Spec again, or do both. Lately when I've needed to do some GT Mode to make an OLR car available, I have been A-spec racing and only adding the parts I need. That usually yields me about 40 A-Spec points, so obviously there is some A-Spec manipulation that I'll need to fully grasp if I choose that route. Oooh, the possibilities!

Driving Missions 1 through 10 (contributed by The Missing Link) :

1 - No big trick here, just follow the leading Fiat until you are headed
downhill nearing the turn. Come out from behind the car (I don't think
there is a draft available at this speed anyways) and just out brake the AI
into the corner. Go full throttle in 3rd as soon as you have slowed to
about 40-42 mph, and only steer as much as you have to.

2 - Just about the same as the last one, follow the leading BMW, shift into 3rd at 68 mph, 4th at 101 mph. As you shift into 4th get to the inside of the lead car and out-brake it to the corner. It is easy to 'take' the line from the black bimmer, effectively blocking any kind of pass. Go full throttle as you get down to about 50 mph, and make a smooth line to the
finish. You will probably notice that once past mid-turn the black bimmer falls way behind.

3 - Follow the white Alfa up the hill, steering only as much as absolutely necessary. Wait until you are gaining significant ground on the leader to start braking, slowing down to about 50-51 mph, and being about 4 feet or less from the rear bumper. Stay tight, continuing to follow the leader's line, use slightly modulating throttle to do this. As the turn opens up, the lead car will swing off to the left, try to make your line nearly straight from left apex to right apex, avoiding the swerving of the other car. Slow to about 48-50 mph, still in 3rd gear, and make a smooth right turn. More than likely, you will have slight contact with the AI, but that is not your fault, just watch the replay. Stay to the left side, and just make sure to block the AI smoothing out your turn. You will need to slow to about 33-36 mph in 2nd gear for the tight 180.

4 - Stay in the draft, and shift into 4th at 108 mph. As you shift into 4th get to the inside line, and start braking just before passing the shadow of the bridge on the ground. Slow to about 35-36 mph in 2nd gear, and use modulating throttle until you apex the second right. As you apex the second, go full throttle keeping a smooth line to the finish.

5 - The key here is in the tightening portion of the long high speed turn. Shift into 3rd at 68 mph, and into 4th at 96 mph. Keep most of the car to the right of the yellow line, and wait until you see the lead car turn in. As soon as you see the lead car make it's turn-in, go full left lock steering until you near the apex of your turn, then lighten up and only
steer as much as necessary. This should put you about five to six car-lengths back, shifting into 5th at 125 mph. Keep in the draft, moving to the left of the lead car as you approach the bridge. Begin braking just as you go under the bridge, slowing to about 81-82 mph in 3rd gear. Coast for a moment to stay far enough ahead to not get rear-ended, going full throttle just before your speed drops to 77 mph. Get to the right side, slow to about 65 mph in 3rd, coast, accelerate out very late, and coast through the final, maintaining about 62-63 mph.

6 - Smooth out your line, staying close to the left side grass, shift into 3rd at 56 mph, and begin a light-and-smooth right turn, always increasing your speed, and not drifting at all. This should put you in the draft of the lead Miata. Follow the draft, and shift into 4th at 84 mph, while manuevering to the right of the miata. Brake down to about 40 mph, and coast until you are in front, then go full throttle. To maximize exit speed (which is not entirely necessary), do not follow the inside line of the turn, but rather, steer minimally and allow the car to swing to the left side.

7 - A nice trick on this test is to pass the lead Golf during the left sweeper. Accomplishing this is a little tricky. To start, steer in hard aiming at a slightly late apex, and coast/rapid tap a bit to slow down to about 62-63 mph. After passing the apex, medium throttle down to about 58-59 mph, and keep as tight as you can through the second right, getting
the entire car on top of the rumble strip. This will maximize your acceleration time down the short straight to the left sweeper, gaining lots of ground on the leader. Stay just right of the darkened asphalt (center-line) of the track, turning in quite a bit earlier than the lead Golf, holding full throttle until you get the car onto the rumble strip. Then medium throttle your way down to about 61-62 mph, going full throttle as soon as you can see the white signage next to the orange Autobacs signage. When done right you will be significantly in front of the green Golf with just under half of the test to go. Shift to 3rd at 77 mph, and smoothly track from the right to the left, coasting from rumble strip to
rumble strip for the quick-ess. Start braking shortly after crossing the right rumble strip, slowing to about 40-41 mph in 2nd gear. Go full throttle with smooth steering to the finish.

8 - Keep a smooth line through the left-right, shifting into 4th at 92 mph. Lift slightly as you turn-in, but generally staying full throttle. Brake hard down to about 60 mph in 2nd gear, following tight to the inside of the track.

9 - Tap the steering to the right on start, trying to keep the car straight. Shift into 5th at 131 mph. Learn when the AI is abotu to brake, and time it so that you begin braking about one-twentieth of a second after the AI starts braking. Smoothly get just to the right of the AI car, slowing down to about 56 mph in 3rd gear. Coast across the apex, going to full throttle just after passing the apex. Keep it off of the outside rumble strip on exit.

10 - Well, the big trick to the start is to always be in the draft of the red Renault. Shift into 4th at 76 mph, into 5th at 95 mph, and into 6th at 118 mph. It may look as though the engine will not rev high enough to get these speeds, but, it does. If you get every shift just right, you can stay in the draft of the red Renault up to 128 mph, and the AI is
nice enough to let you pass on the left side ! Minimizing your steering (and speed loss) up to the first corner. Start braking heavy as you pass the 100m sign(s), slowing the car to about 71 mph in 4th gear, and coasting to the left turn. This should leave you downshifting into 3rd gear, maintaining about 51-52 mph through the left apex. Go full throttle as you
downshift. This also puts the blue Renualt just enough in front of you to use it for a decent draft.

Again, shift into 3rd at 76 mph, and into 4th at 95 mph. The car should stutter for some reason at 88-89 mph, again, making for a better use of the draft from the blue Renault. Just about the same time you are shifting into 6th (118 mph), pass the blue car to the right side, once again, the AI leaves just enough room to minimize your steering. Start braking just before reaching the hyrdo-wire post on your right side (it is shortly after the 100m sign). Slow the car to about 88 mph in 4th, going full throttle past the apex, and then braking down to about 55 mph in 3rd gear for the right. You should be braking all the way to the apex, and immediately going to full throttle. Once again, the AI car is just enough in front of you to utilize some draft.

Shift into 4th at 76 mph, and into 5th at 95 mph. As you shift into 5th, gently pass to the right side of the green AI, and stay on the right side. Shift into 6th at 118 mph. Steer gently through the right, maximizing track usage, and start braking as you cross the center-line of the track heading towards the left side. Slow all the way down to about 42-43 mph in 2nd gear, going full throttle just as you pass the apex. Shift into 3rd at 61 mph just before going across the finish.

(11) 3 Lap Battle: New York

Some Numbers:

35: (mph) This is the minimum speed for this Mission. If you drop below this, the bus blows up and we all go "home." You should reach this speed (or slightly higher) on the approach to the second turn as well as the hairpin.

47: (mph) This is the speed you should try to maintain around the circle. Your approach speed shouldn't dip below 47 if you brake early enough. There are also several later corners where this is a decent speed to take them at. For this Mission, every corner on this track should either be taken at 47 or 35 (other speeds will work, but this is the simplest way to put it.)

My intervals: +27.276 / +21.165 / +17.237 / +13.646 / +5.584 / +3.434 / -1.218

Misc. tips:
- Other than corners following a long straight, brake when you get to the rumble strip.
- Draft wherever possible. Even when following "long," drafting still seems to help.

(12) 3 Lap Battle: Laguna Seca
If you haven't driven Laguna Seca much in GT4, it'll take some getting used to - 30 minutes of failed missions in my case.

Get to the right side of the track approaching the first hairpin. Brake at Marker 2 to 50-55 mph in 2nd gear.
Start braking for Turn 3 on the left side of the track at Marker 2. Minimum speed should be 75-80 mph. Come out of the turn on the left side.
(T1)
Brake at Marker 2 for Turn 4, maintaining 95-100 mph.
Turn 5 can be taken in 3rd at 80 mph even though the game says to use 2nd gear. Brake for it at Marker 3.
(T2)
Marker 2 is the braking point for Turn 6, which can be taken at 90-100 mph in 3rd gear.
Approaching the Corkscrew, stay to the right and brake right before the rumble strip down to 40 mph in 2nd gear. Straighten out the Corkscrew turns as much as possible.
Veer to the right side of the track, and lift off around 110 mph to 100 mph (3rd gear) for Turn 9, Rainey Curve (T3). Come out of this turn on the left, setting up for Turn 10, braking at Marker 2 and maintaining 90-95 mph in 3rd gear.
Brake at Marker 3 for the final turn, #11, which can be taken at 45-50 mph in 2nd gear. If you slow down too much or too soon, the game will tell you to drop to 1st gear.

My intervals: +18.850/ +17.371/ +16.218/ +13.503(Lap 1)/ +11.346/ +9.562/ +8.535/ +5.878(Lap 2)/ +3.612/ +2.110/ +0.414/ -0.518(Final)

(13) 3 Lap Battle: Opera Paris
-Contributed by Santiago22
In this mission, you face off against a series of rally cars for 3 laps on the Opera Paris Circuit, with the lead car being a Ford Focus Rally Car. You will start this mission 11 seconds behind the Focus.

Dab the brakes as you turn in to Turn 1. Your first task of the lap is a set of 3 S-curves. Take the first at about 65mph, and the next two a bit over 70. If you set it up right, you can nail the gas on the way into Turn 2 and stay flat through to the short chute. The exit of Turn 3 is very wide, so don't be afraid to use the extra space. Turn 4, a 90-degree left, should be taken about 60mph. Brake just after the 50m marker. Yes, you can make it. Following this, there is a short run up to the bus stop chicane, Turns 5 and 6. Turn 5 (the left-right) should be taken at 50-55mph, accelerating to 60mph for the second apex. Lift a bit when the road straightens, take Turn 6 (the right-left) at 60 for the first apex, and hit the gas just before you get there. You should hit the second apex at 70mph, and make your way down to the next section.

Now we come to the Turn 7/8 complex, a medium right into a 90-degree left. Turn in towards the right and brake through the apex of Turn 7 (70mph), and slow to 30mph for the left at Turn 8. You get a quick burst of acceleration before Turn 9, a left-handed hairpin. Take this at 30mph. Hug the left edge of Turn 9, right by the curb. When you get out of Turn 9, hit the gas and take Turn 10, a 90-degree right onto the back straight. Depending on your line, you might need to lift a bit if the front doesn't stick on the entry, but it is key not to hit the wall on the exit. Turn 10 should ideally be taken at 50mph.

Now for the fastest part of the course. You have a long straightaway into a fast left-hander. You'll reach about 120mph before you get to Turn 11. For Turn 11, dab the brakes just past the 50m marker, and turn left, cornering at about 105mph. The road narrows at the exit, and the wall cuts into the track just enough that striking it can destroy your run (on any lap). If you're not sure about your exit, lift off the gas as you come off the corner. It won't hurt your time much because you've only got a few seconds to Turn 12, a 90-degree right and possibly your best passing opportunity. For Turn 12, brake at about 75m and take the corner at about 40mph. If you're close behind someone, line up on the right and brake just a bit later (~60m). If you're behind someone but not that close, watch out - the AI brakes excessively here, and you can find yourself caught out with a 5-second penalty if you're not alert. Hold the right side of Turn 12 as best as you can to set up for Turn 13, a 40mph 90-degree left. If you're behind someone here, you can dive to the inside between Turns 12 and 13, but you'll have to slow to 30mph to get the corner - the AI is very conservative in this corner.

You've got about 2 seconds of acceleration until Turns 14 and 15, which should be taken much like 12/13, holding the inside of the first corner to maximize speed through the second - 40mph for the left, 50mph for the right. Now accelerate into the last corner, Turn 16, a decreasing radius left-hand hairpin. Position the car in the middle of the track, and ease into the brakes if the car washes out. Even though the corner is a hairpin, you'll be hitting the gas just past halfway through, as the exit of Turn 16 is very wide. Your slowest speed here should be 50mph. Ideally, you should be at 50mph in the middle of the corner, just inside the center of the course. If you are, you can hit the gas and the car will apex just as the road widens, exiting in the middle of the course heading down the front straightaway.

My Split Times:
Race Start: +11.000
Lap 1 T1: +9.830 - 6th place, looking to pass for 5th.
Lap 1 T2: +8.287 - 5th place
(Turns 12/13: pass for 4th.)

Lap 2 S/F: +6.660 - 4th place
(Pass for 3rd entering Turn 1)
Lap 2 T1: +6.311 - 3rd place
(Turn 10 exit: passing Escort Rally Car for 2nd)
Lap 2 T2: +4.526 - 2nd place

Lap 3 S/F: +2.956 - 2nd place
Lap 3 T1: +1.703
Lap 3 T2: +0.047 - alongside 1st place Focus Rally Car
(Turn 11: back off, follow Focus)
(Turn 12: outbrake Focus, pass for lead)

Finish: -2.702

Passing Zones - Risk level:
Turn 1 entry - Medium-High. Be aggressive if you attempt a pass here.
Turn 5/6 complex (Bus Stop) - Low-Medium. Outbrake during entry.
Turn 7 entry - Medium-High. You'll have to dive into the right much faster than the AI to pass here.
Turn 12 - Low to High. If you're close, it's cake. From further back, the risk increases greatly.
Turn 13 - Low. AI is conservative here - brake late, throw her in. Element of surprise.

(14) 3 Lap Battle: Seattle
Note: After the 1st lap, you should be in 2nd place.
For the first hairpin, brake at the stoplight between 200 & 100m to about 45 mph in 2nd gear.
Take Turn 3 in 2nd @ 55 mph.
Brake for Turn 5 at the 100m sign to 45 mph.
The 50m sign is your brake point for Turn 6, which should also be taken @ 45 mph.
Turns 7, 8 & 9 should be taken at 55, 60, and 40. Think of these turns as a single section, with each turn flowing into the next.
Brake for Turn 11 at the 100m sign down to 45 mph.
Maintain 50 mph through turns 12, 13, & 14.
Brake for Turn 15 at the 50m sign to 35 mph. Carry 70-75 mph through the chicane.

My intervals: +5.574/ +3.944/ +3.681(Lap 1)/ +2.116/ +2.452(whoops!)/ +1.042(Lap 2)/ (5 sec penalty at Turn 2 for hitting 1st place car) +0.586/ -1.681/ -3.339(final)

(15) 3 Lap Battle: Cote d'Azur
Stay straight at the beginning of this Mission. For the first right-hander, brake at the start of the third-to-last tree shadow at 88 mph on lap 1. For the other laps, brake at the fourth-to-last shadow instead. Slow to 47-50 mph in second gear. Immediately apply full throttle to maximize speed through the first uphill section. Lift off only if necessary to avoid the ensuing wall. Try to maintain as straight a line as possible up the hill.
Brake at 92 mph just before the hill crest, where the right side wall protrudes furthest into the track. Feather the throttle around 60 mph in third gear for this long left-hander. Around the apex, the car will start to feel loose - lift off or tap the brakes to maintain control and to stay close to the inside wall. Finish the turn in second gear at 50-55 mph setting up for the upcoming right turn, for which you shouldn't need to brake. Lift off to maintain 50 mph.
(T1)
Brake at the second-to-last tree shadow for the next right, slowing to 30-35 mph in second gear. Stay on the right side of the track. At the end of the large shadow, brake to about 20 mph for the hairpin. (Either first or second gear will work here, depending on personal preference.)
The next series of three right-handers is crucial to your lap times, as it leads into the longest straight (or long right-hander) of the track. 45, 55, and 40 mph are the minimum speeds to carry through these turns. The optimal line here will result in entering the long straight at 50-55 mph while just avoiding the wall on the left. The shadows here serve as your brake markers.
Approaching the chicane, brake close to the right wall, as the Polyphony Digital sign starts on the left. Carry 30-40 mph through the chicane (again in first or second gear.)
Brake at the rumble strip to 55 mph for the next left. The next turns are left, right, right, and left, and they surround T2. Their minimum speeds are 70, 60, 55, and 40 mph.
Brake almost anywhere for the "wide hairpin" leading into the final chicane, as long as you stay above 30 mph. The chicane can be taken nearly flat-out, slightly tapping the brake on the approach.

My intervals: +38.773 (6th place)/ +30.181 (5th)/ +26.844 (4th)/ (Lap 2) +21.098 (4th)/ +13.346 (3rd)/ +9.198 (2nd)/ (Lap 3) +3.458 (2nd)/ -2.831/ -7.020

(16) 3 Lap Battle: Suzuka
Always shift this Beetle at 7000 rpm.
From the rolling start, continue at full throttle. Brake at 121 mph on lap 1 when you're next to the right-side rumble strip. Slow to about 90 mph in 4th gear. Accelerate briefly, and brake to 70 mph in 3rd gear, coasting to 64 mph before getting back to full throttle upon exit. Make your way to the right side of the track to set up for the ess turns. Brake to 83 mph on 4th gear for the first left, gradually slowing to 77 mph for the right. The next ess should be taken at 75, and then 71 mph. The next long left-hander can be taken at full throttle.
Tap the brakes at the "50" marker on your left, and maintain 85 mph in 4th gear. Slow to 60 mph in 3rd for the right turn immediately before...
(T1)
Go full throttle to the hairpin. Brake to 31-35 mph before turning. Accelerate through the turn, and maintain full throttle around the long right-hander. Brake just before reaching the left-side rumble strip for the next two lefts, which should be taken at 75 mph and 65 mph.
(T2)
Lift off (if you need to) for the high-speed left turn, keeping your speed above 115 mph in 5th gear.
Brake to 45 mph for the chicane, exiting the second half of it around 50 mph. Full throttle around the final turn and through the start/finish line.

My intervals: +14.287 (6th)/ +12.375 (5th)/ +10.461 (5th)/ (Lap 2) +6.936 (3rd)/ +4.853 (2nd)/ +3.191 (2nd)/ (Lap 3) 0.349 (2nd)/ -1.878 / -3.130

(17) 3 Lap Battle: Infineon
Don't ever try to brake here if the car's not pointed relatively straight or if a wheel is in the grass.
The margin for error on this test seems to be pretty wide, so try to 'take it slow' just as the in-game instructions suggest. Many of the turns on this track can be taken a variety of ways. I'll post how I took them, but many different driving lines can be utilized to successfully complete this mission.

From the start, shift into 4th and briefly into 5th before braking up the hill onto the left rumble strip. Carry 70 mph through the right turn, and maintain 80-85 mph through the following ess.
(T1)
Brake at the end of the left rumble strip to 50-55 mph for the right-hander. Brake at the hillcrest to about 90 mph. Try to exit this left turn at 130-140 mph by the time you straighten out. Brake at the first white sign on the left (which is the second overall sign; the first one's blue) to 50-55 mph. Go full throttle, lifting off as necessary through the esses surrounding...
(T2)
The high-speed right turn can be taken at 145, but 130 is fast enough also. Brake at the first cone to 40 mph for the hairpin. Go full throttle to the start/finish line.

My intervals: +19.496 (6th)/ +14.297 (5th)/ +11.232 (3rd)/ (Lap 2) +9.039 (3rd)/ +4.541 (2nd)/ +0.159 (2nd)/ (Lap 3) -1.915/ -6.896/ -15.000+ (Replay expired before 2nd place finished.)

(18) 3 Lap Battle: Sarthe II
(19) 3 Lap Battle: Suzuka East
(20) 3 Lap Battle: Tsukuba
(Coming sometime...)

(21) Slipstream Battle 1: Nissan Cube
For this "Intro to Slipstreaming" stay in 3rd gear at 99 mph and directly behind the 5th place car until the start of the back straight where the game (correctly) tells you to shift to 4th. Catching the draft of the 5th place car will bring your speed up to a blistering 112 mph before you nearly touch its bumper and need to overtake it. Pass tight with a goal of slipstreaming 4th place, and repeat all the way to the finish line.

My intervals: +11.549 (6th)/ +10.093/ +9.086/ +6.700 (5th)/ -1.020

(22) Slipstream Battle 2: Honda Odyssey
Stay in 4th gear for the entire lap. You should pass 5th place just before the first turn's apex (that's if the track has two turns total ). Basic slipstreaming technique again: pass tight to set up for slipstreaming 4th place, and repeat all the way to the finish line.

My intervals: +12.106 (6th)/ +11.026/ +5.593 (4th)/ +3.462 (3rd) / -1.442

(23) Slipstream Battle 3: Nissan Skyline GT-R
The map at the start of this mission shows the lead car to be quite a bit ahead of the rest of the pack. Taking first place will require some teamwork. Fortunately your teammates (the AI) are very predictable, always tracing the outside yellow line.
Follow that line for the entire mission. You can use either 5th or 6th gear; I used 6th.
Watch your rearview mirror closely while in second place, as the AI will draft straight into you, so you need to get out of their way. One, two, or even three cars should pass you. Draft back ahead of them and let them catch up again, trying to keep your speed around 167 mph minimum. Cornering speeds should be no less than 163 mph.
I left the group after Turn 1 of Lap 3 to pursue the lead AI down the back straight.

My intervals: (Lap 1 T1 doesn't show up)/ +13.747/ +8.734/ +8.333/ +6.851/ (Lap 2) +6.779/ +6.695/ +4.972/ +4.649/ +3.309/ (Lap 3) +3.231/ +3.145/ +0.863/ -0.598/ -1.974

(24) Slipstream Battle 4: Amuse S2000 GT1
A 3-lap high-speed version of Missions 21 & 22.

My intervals: +9.371 (6th)/ +8.854/ +7.981/ +7.048/ +5.938 (5th)/ (Lap 2) +5.706 (4th)/ +5.242/ +4.262/ 3.060 (3rd)/ +2.456/ (Lap 3) +2.223 (2nd)/ +1.761/ +0.590/ -0.141/ -0.762

(More incompletes...)
(25) 1 Lap Magic: Z Showdown!
(26) 1 Lap Magic: Honda Showdown!
(27) 1 Lap Magic: Mazda Showdown!
(28) 1 Lap Magic: Celica Showdown!
(29) 1 Lap Magic: Chevy Showdown!
(30) 1 Lap Magic: Subaru Showdown!
(31) 1 Lap Magic: Lotus Showdown!

I feel crummy for having never finished the Mission Guide, but to be honest I don't know if I ever will complete it. OLR is just too much fun. Most of the Missions now have enough info about them posted around the net anyway.

My 4-speed tranny in RBN 03 got overlooked, but now that egg's been cracked. The second 4-speed setting posted was faster than mine, but for now I've settled on 440 kph. I think I can still knock a few tenths off my time if I can ever fit more time in. I'm obviously not "getting" sector 2, but I improved there last night.

I hope to get back to the Suzuka license soon to see if I've already forgotten everything I learned about the track in RBN 01.

My GT time is relatively scarce right now, since I'm working on the bass music for my church's Christmas program - I have to transcribe 10 songs from a CD, and then type them into sheet music via NoteWorthy Composer. This is especially boring since I'm dealing with church music. I have 6 songs finished so far, and our second rehearsal is tonight. We also have 4 rehearsals next week, and hopefully I'll have all the songs ready by then. Speaking of bass, I bought a new 5-string, so now I have 5 extra low notes to play.
Brady's busy with Christmas stuff for church too. He's going to be Joseph in the kid's Program this Sunday, so he's been rehearsing twice a week.

What else... oh yeah, Steph and I are getting married in Jamaica next year sometime. We're pretty set on doing it at Couples Ocho Rios. One thing we need to work out is the photography. It's ~ $300 for 12 pictures, and $150 for a DVD, so we're looking to meet another couple there and do each other's photography. Steph's pretty good at it, and hopefully we can find someone similarly capable to shoot ours.
This will be my second trip to Jamaica. So far the plans include: Wedding (duh!), Dunn's River Falls, Margaritaville (Island Village), horseback riding, scuba diving, glass-bottom boat, Catamaran cruise, some sort of Bob Marley tour, and relaxing on the beach. It seems like a lot to squeeze into a week.

On an even scarier subject, Brady and I will be meeting a surgeon today who will be removing Brady's spleen (hopefully the last week of December.) Brady has ITP, and it's been active for about 4 years, so the only chance at permanently escaping it is removal of the spleen. It's about a 80% chance the surgery will cure him, so prayer is in order.

Good luck and kind regards

My mother and I - along with some of her friends - took a Caribbean cruise back in '89 and we went through Jamaica. We all went to Ocho Rios and "climbed" Dunn's River Falls. It's great there and I'm sure you and Stephanie will both love it. Congrats on the impending marriage.

My prayers go out to you and Brady for his surgery.

One of the great things about the ‘net is the way it has of making you more informed, even if you weren’t trying. I’d never heard of ITP before, so I followed the link in Eggie’s message, and now I have an understanding of something I didn’t before. Consider my awareness raised.

Personally, I’m not a very spiritual man, so I focus on the skill of the man with the knife (or, as is more likely in this day and age, the laser) in his hand. Make sure you’ve got the best.

One more good deed domino you knocked over my way: Made me call my dad, who had surgery last week, to check in on him and make sure he’s doing his rehab properly.

I let Brady know of the support he has here. His response:

"Do you ever talk to them online?"
"You mean out loud?"
"Yeah."
"No, we just type to each other."
"Oh, OK. Well, next time you type to them could you please tell them I said 'thank you'?"
"Consider it done."
