Calling PAL users (ie. European PS2 model) ...

Anyone want to be X-Pals? I just got me an X-Port v2, and I want to use it. My local Game store couldn't supply it, couldn't even order it, but I got mine thru Special Reserve - http://www.ukgames.com (no, I am not an employee and am not paid for this plug; just thought it might be handy to know). What does it do? It allows you to transfer saves between memory cards and PC hard disk - ie. you can back up your saves, utilise expensive 8Mb cards more efficiently, and most important, email your saves to your friends.

So, to kick off this thread, I can offer my best lap for any of the Online Racing "for your spare time" challenges, ie. Time Trial and S-8 License best laps (see the "spare time" threads in Online Racing).

I drive GT3 with analog accel/brake on the right stick, and with auto gears. I am particularly interested in Time Attack and S-8 License runs which are better than my posted best efforts - and especially in those which are done with auto gears. I'd also like to see some good times on Rally License tests if anyone has such saves.

Regards, p2

Hi Player2

It would certainly be good to get some use out of my own X-port as, so far, it's only major service has been to back-up my memory cards.

I'll have to dig through my cards and find where my good Licence and Time Trial times are and, more importantly, find out if I actually saved them or not !

In short, yes, I'd be happy to get an exchange of replays for PAL on the go .

Forgot to mention, I also have best lap saves for all license tests @ Gold, with the exception of 1 or 2 I forgot to save (for those few, I have saves of Silver near-miss-Golds). I'll make up a list soon.

OK, I lied. Here's a list of the saves I really have available. TIA for pointing out any obvious typos. I am not a purist - I allow wall touches and I let the game be the judge; e.g. S7 and S8 have a couple of useful scrapes, my S2 in the GT40 at Seattle unashamedly uses a 'rebound' method of steering and I'd love to see anyone's gold run using a non-touch method.

[Edit: Replay List moved to head of thread.]

Sukerkin, if you find your S7 Griffith save, I'd really love to run against it!

I have some good Rally licence replays to share in sharkport format.

Actually I was planning to create a spot race, with the objective of getting all of them under 4:40 but the board challenge is comming and people are going to be busy.

R1: 15.204
R2: 28.350
R3: 21.478
R4: 21.763
R5: 26.259
R6: 29.131
R7: 21.972
R8: 1:56.721

Let me know if you are interested.

Gpardo, great times there, all better than mine by a long way ...

... but can I read them into my PAL/Europe version of GT3 on my X-Port? What I had surmised was thet the gap between NTSC/Sharkport and PAL/X-Port was as wide as the Atlantic!

But I'm willing to give it a try if you think there's any reason to doubt that statement(?)

Hey gpardo, can you send the replays for R-6, 7, and 8 my way ?? I'd be much thankful They are golds, right ? I'm sure they based on your efforts in the Mudslinger's Spot races. Cheers, mate.

BTW, It's a hotmail account with the name being 'semper_fie' (Search engines pick it up if you type it email address form)

List moved to the top of the thread.

VB kindly offered some TT replays to share, added to the list. Thanks VB.

Sukerkin's latest S-7 is also added ... erm, is that OK Sukerkin? Thanks.

Since I'm on broadband (flat rate 24x7 access) and have a big disk, I am happy to broker anyone else's PAL replays too. Just mail them to me.

Not a problem Player2. I'm flattered to see my name up there in lights (so to speak !).

I'm afraid I've been a bit remiss and haven't completed my search of my memory cards for suitable replays yet (as I promised you days ago). My apologies, I'll try to get into it tonight.

P2, you've got golds across the board on the S-licence tests, and I don't even have single bronze. How the heck did you come in behind me in the last spot race? It must have been entirely due to your pit stategy, or lack thereof, not your driving.

N-C-1,

Since it's me, you get a flip answer first, then a serious one...

The 100% reason is as follows:-
15% beer
23% wine
36% congnac
26% 2am+

The serious reason is as follows:-
I am rubbish at this game I try for 110% flat out at all times. Thus in hot lap contests I try 1000 starts, get past the first corner 100 times, get past half way 10 times, and complete a lap 1 time. Fine for license tests. But in races, by the same stats, I have one hot lap every 100 races, and the rest are rubbish.

p2

PS. The current Spot is a 'hot lap' contest. Look out! (Oops, when's closing time? I haven't even started looking at it yet!!!)

PPS. It took me 9 months to collect 1 gold on each of 48 tests, it's not really that hot!

You have until 9:00 Monday morning, board time, so 1400 your time, or 0400 Whiskey time if you prefer.

I don't know about your explanation though. I was looking at your "perfect game" thread, and you'd have to be doing some pretty good driving to accomplish that, no matter how many tries it took you.

I can see how the 110% approach could hurt you in a one time race though.

Hi Player2

With my preoccupation with practicing for my seat in Team Numbers I hadn't realised just how much improvement you'd made on some of the S Licence runs. Excellent!

If you'd be kind enough to mail me your S-2 run for perusal I'd like to see what I can learn from someone who knows how to throw the GT40 around Seattle (as opposed to driving it like a granny like me !).

Sukerkin, thanks.

To be strictly accurate, that should be "bounce the GT40 round Seattle" ...

You have mail. Just don't expect to like what you see. The only way I can turn a GT40 is to hit something.

OK mich, lets get this straight. Some licenses I do without using walls. Others, I brush the occasional wall in passing. Only on S-2 at Seattle do I set out to turn the car by rebounding it.

You know, I don't think enough credit is given for the exact science that is the search for the perfect impact, to turn a GT40 precisely and without flagging a 'fail' - the effort that went into tuning these rebounds was considerable!

Hi chaps

The Seattle replay that I've seen is pretty much O.K. I think. There're a couple of oblique contacts with the walls at relatively low speeds that weren't hard enough to make a noise so that can't have been that bad .

Hey GT3Mich,
I just went and checked out Codejunkies and apparently they have an NTSC version of the X-Port available here in the US.

It's the same thing as the Sharkport....which, at the moment, my PS2 disc has gone kaput and won't load....which may lead to me getting an X-Port to replace it.

Lol, must have been one of my cleaner runs! Usually I have at least 6 delibarate brushes with the scenery here. Sukerkin, I'm sure you saw the precision bounce off the tyre wall in the middle portion of the left-right-right-left combi preceeding the railroad X-ing in the first sector? I can not get the car to turn into the second right hander except by that bounce. Other places I just use the wall as an extra brake to slow down for the entry to a corner( eg. at the end of the long back straight and before the turn onto the steep downhill).

Great news, MC !

I was just thinking that my shopping list needed updated ... but fortunately the omissions are all in my own humble efforts at the licenses from B-1 up. The good guys' runs are still valid as best efforts I have available. So if you ping me your wish list, I'll send you some replays in anticipation.

player2 times all revised. (Sorry for missing replays @ B-1 & A-8 ). New VB saves to follow later ... (edit: done!).

Also, warning to X-Port users: Be careful to label your best lap or license save carefully first time around! The software continues to see it as it's original name, even if you subsequently change the comment in the GT3 file menu. eg. X-Port still sees "TT1 p1" even though I edited the name to "TT1 1'21.585".

p2

PS. If you copy someone's saved file to your card, remember not to try to claim it as your own run at a later date, as the owner's name is not available in the file or replay menus. (Sukerkin, I nearly had two of your good ones on my list! )

PPS. The upshot of the two warnings above is that we shold all have saved our replays with our own name included in the original comment - but as none of us did that, the above saves are all subject to the risk of mistaking ownership when you are in the X-Port software.

PPPS. VB times now updated.

Not surprisingly, the Sharkport does the same thing.

You too can share my 100% moment; on offer is a 120kbyte game save saved at 99.8%before the final 2-lap race, so you can re-live the sensation of seeing the 100% come up and the last four prize cars appear.
