Well you certainly conned me with that hypothesis, WasteGate! I'm sure there is a right tyre strategy for this race, but I don't know what it is. I only know the wrong strategy - after the fact.

I'd like to use the excuse of having had to rush this event as my reason for the appalling run; but in truth, I felt my sprint time was a pretty competitive run, at least as far as the "class B" runners are concerned , and I thought I was pretty much 'in the zone', so, knowing that I was only allowed a random guess at the tyres, I took the "hint" above, and slapped on a set of tyres which made the car entirely undriveable. A quick review of the replay seems to suggest that I got a clean lap on lap 7 (my FL), but by that time I had run out of fingers for counting fouls anyway. However, I did at least get a comfortable race win, after having been about 18 seconds down after 3 laps.

I was going to revisit the sprint as time allowed today, but the notion wore off after my terrible feature race, so I'll just submit what I've got, and go buy a fresh car for next week. The remains of this week's car can be viewed at Bedford Borough Council's "Tidy Tip".

Anyway, have a nice week folks, I'll be back late Sunday.

I have a quick question for Psyfalcon...

Can we change cars between rounds? In other words, am I stuck with the GT40?

I certainly had the impression that you use the same car in all races. I believe that's the way it was last year.

I think that if you want to change cars you'll have to forfit your win. We didn't switch after the first race was run.

Thanks guys, it was something of an academic question as I've already submitted round 2 in the GT40. But I did want to know.

The GT40 is quite a handful in the wet. Particularly on harder tyres. Even more so when they're cold. It was great

I had forgotten about the cold tire issue. I'm running these free run laps with my tire of choice, but during the race when the tires are cold (or red) I'll be smacking every wall in the place if I drive the same way.

What happend to your idea to run the Taxi WG? (thanks for the settings by the way).

So far in just practice its proved to be quite fun in the wet. With a lowish TCS setting its quite easy to control, with full power being applied out of most of the corners straight away.
With it off however Iv run prehaps .5sec faster, but the car becomes dangerously unstable, and will step out with absolutly no warning, good for a hot lap, but not for a race.

My GT 40 has its ASM permanently set to 0 while the TCS is stuck at 1.

I doubt it affects the car in anyway (singnificantly) exept to help on starts, and I need all the help i can get there!

NC1 and GT3Mich have told me I can't change cars, thats what happened Not that I would have done for this race. But I promise I will guest enter it, probably at Trial Mountain.

I did run the Sprint race in testing at Deep Forest with the Taxi and set a 3'26.6, just quick enough to beat everyone who wasn't in the GT40 - but not quick enough to hold them all off in the Feature I would suspect.

Your a braver man than I!
It was my orginal intention, but the Taxi is a big heavy car, and likes to have the power on to keep it online. Its good fun in the dry, but can step out very easily in the wet.

If you feel like sharing some settings feel free to shoot me an email as well. andrew@automotiveforums.com

I too thought about asking if I could change cars if I gave up my points. Having entered the Professional league GT World Championship and won every event in the series in my old XJ220, Jaguar offered me a seat to represent them in this series. Really it’s that I got a new XJ220 as a prize, but I prefer to think of it the other way. I decided not to ask because I truly like the Mercedes and want to drive it in competition.

I think that the tire wear on this track is reduced for having a cooling liquid providing lubrication. The problem is that the tires slide a great deal more because the blasted liquid is providing lubrication. The steering tires are going to slip a lot more and I don’t know any driving tricks to address this, other than driving real slow. I use a slack gear, a gear higher than is required by the RPMs, during cornering a lot more on the wet and this helps stop drive-tire spin. So taking into account that much or some of it may be a product of driving style, I find that wear caused by steering is increased some but wear caused by propelling the car is actually reduced.

I used a softer grade of tire on the rear this event than last event, and I still had a lot of tire life left over at the end.

My times are in.

Time submitted.

Mostly happy with my feature race run since my lap times were mostly in line with my practice times, but I had two bad laps that will ruin me. On each one I was about 3 seconds off my practice time.

One of them I just let my mind wander and lost track of where I was in the concrete canyon. I started to turn when I should have still been going straight.

The other time I just got too aggressive trying to lap the GT-40.

My sprint race was pretty good for me, though I'm sure it won't be competitive since I was no where near the practice times GT3mich mentioned.

Overall I'm a lot happier with this week than last week.

Now on to a Speed 12 for Sukerkin's spot race.

Just a quick check that you got my times 'Psy?

I got invited out to a party at zero notice so I just had time to slap the races in, write the times down on a scrap of paper and dash out of the house.

I mailed you using a friends connection on Saturday night so you may not recognise the incoming e-mail address (I did it via my webmail account so it may turn out plain enough who it's from anyway)

Well done again WG - I think you're going to have this one all your own way mate !

The battle that'll keep this interesting for me will be with Mands by the look of things (that and seeing how close I can keep to the GT40 times on the feature races).

Oh and just in case anyone is wondering about the truly bad Sprint Race time for this one - I forgot to change the tyres and ran it on T2's :O

Great times there Dango. I think Sukerkin is wrong, this series is not going to go my way at all. I knew my Feature race was far from perfect, but was very happy with my Sprint until I saw your time

The GT40 does appear to be the car to have, if it can dominate in the wet, it will dominate everywhere.

Er, I just started looking at this one today!

This post is addressed to those who have the integrity to run the races completely clean, and whom I try in vain to emulate ...

Is the sprint at Seattle, in fact, posiible to race clean? Or is it a choice between racing and being clean? My efforts so far seem to suggest that the only way to remain clean of AI is to stay behind the AI all the way. Sukerkin, I look to you as my guiding light, but anyone else please feel free to answer ...

FWIW, the only field I raced so far includes a Vertigo, a Camaro and a GT40, which race together with such reckless abandon that if you pass one you will need to slow down for the next, at which point the one you passed will give you a hefty *&?$^% up the £!%*&/

p2

BTW - someone (Psy?) remind me whether qualifying was permitted in the sprints and features?

Crikey! This is due tomorrow ! I'm off out tonight and will not be in a fit state for this until tomorrow afternoon earliest I would guess.

P2, I haven't run this yet but I would surmise the place to lose the AI is through the Suicide Chicane as they will brake and you won't have to. Depending on power, the back straight might be possible too - again as they'll brake more than necessary (or in the wrong place at any rate ) to go over the tracks.

Depending onhow bad the AI is, the Race Steward may have to rule that being hit by the AI does not constitute an infraction (as long as you're not deliberately anchoring up so they slam into you of course !).

I think the key for you to drive cleanly is to never go above second gear p2. Unfortunately as an auto driver my transmission goes above second all the time without me telling it too, and I can't get used the hold it in gear trick, so I guess I'm going to be at a disadvantage compared to you.

I've done this one in advance, and P2 it is easily possible to do the Sprint race completely clean. So long as there is a slow car in pole (worth trying repeatedly till you get one) I can outbrake them all into turn 1, and never look back.

The Feature is another kettle of fish, they were playing billiards with me on that one. I will confess to getting a bit ruthless with the AI cars after having been rammed from behind a few times. It's tricky to pass the R390 and the GT-One on the straights with the GT40.

Did this change happen yet? Because I'm ready to send in my results, and the only address I have at the moment is the iesresults one.

I'll send it to that one in hopes it gets through. If it doesn't, I am probably out of luck. Though I will likely get to check this thread tomorrow morning before I leave town for the day if another address is posted by then.

As for the races, don't ask. I was just trying to get them in to avoid a DNF. The results were not pretty, as could be expected due to the lack of time I put in.

The sprint wasn't too awful, but I only had time for 3 attempts. The feature stunk, other than a couple of decent laps.
