After about 10 laps of free run practice I've broken (barely) 1'10 at Deep Forest once. With the wear down time for the first race, and spending time driving a purple Lotus on ice, this is the first I've worked on this race. The results wil therefore not be too good, but hopefully I can improve in later races. Though if the holidays interfere... IP: Logged |

I had a 1:04 in free practice on T8s and I believe a 1:03 is possible. I didn't try for that since wearing down my GT on T2 was a bit time consuming and the event will likely be won with the feature race. Looking forward to the rain race already. ![]() [This message has been edited by Dango (edited 12-13-2003).] IP: Logged |

Those practice times are very impressive gentlemen ... much too impressive in fact .I'm guessing I'm in the wrong car for the track as I only pulled 1:08's in the D2 on T8's. Mind you, I shouldn't expect much as I've been out partying since Friday and basically got in late tonight, sat down, did a couple of Free Run laps to put some tuning on the car and did the Sprint and then the Feature races back to back ! ------------------ IP: Logged |

1:04s is scary fast, altough given my percieved skill differnce and my submitted time it might actualy be possible in the old Taxi as well, so altough its a noted performance differnce between all the cars, it might not actualy be as bad as people thing. And I don't if I should be looking forward to the wet race or not, the big heavy taxi is going to be a real handful! ------------------ IP: Logged |

My choice of car was simple and dictated mostly by time. I have all these cars but they are worn down with many miles on each of them. I ran the GT40 last year and I wanted to try something different. The only one I have a copy of that is fresh is the CLK, it is a car you win once so I keep a virgin copy. I did the sprint race first and I did it a few times, that was my practice. I think my tire choice for the main event was good but with no tire testing I was not as confident in it as I might have been. So those are my excuses up front, and I’m sticking with them. I looked for but could not find a notice “send submissions here”, yet many of you have said “time submitted”. So Psyfalcon you have mail, assuming I got this right my times are in. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Hi NumbOne Nice to hear from you again my friend - hows things? As to to submitting the times for these races, I think 'Psy has said in one of his posts to use the e-mail address we used for the Insanity Endurance Series i.e. iesresults@aol.com. That's what I used at any rate, so if it's wrong, 'Psy, please let me know. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Looks like it will be a good turn out. I'm looking forward to seeing the results since posted practice times don't really matter and I don't need a DQ. ![]() ------------------ IP: Logged |

I almost went to bed without sending my results in. That might have been a good thing, since I was horrible. I buckled under pressure and didn't even come close to my practice times. At least I won't get the a stewardship because of it. P.S. Oh, I ended up driving the Caribra. (Why did I always think it was Calibra?) IP: Logged |

quote: Moppie the Taxi settings will be with you shortly - no rush if you've done the race already. I didn't do any work on it in the rain though, and my settings might be too stiff for the wet, but I got a few 1'06s with it at the Forest. I'm not suprised Dango was in 1'04s, since I was too. I don't think I could ever get a 1'03 though. Running at SS5 in the wet is going to be interesting as I have no idea on how to set up a car for the wet. It's going to be interesting. IP: Logged |

I ended up running with the stock settings, I tried a few differnt set ups, including some from somewhere else, but I cant remember where. For some reason they just seemed to work very well in the forest, but were certianly not that good around midfield. Im thinking something a little soft for the wet, I know stiffing up the roll bars makes a world of differnce. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Results! but we managed 3 DQs. 2 for not finishing both races. 1 since Moppie seeems to have hot lapped for his sprint race. And Dango seems to have ran 2 extra laps?? IP: Logged |

Ok... Excel lost some declimal places, but none of hte results were close enough to make it matter. Winning the sprint race gets you an extra point. It seems reasonable enough since it can take so much time but not effect the results much. And lasty those GT40. Quite a gaggle of them, but I think they wont have so much fun in the RAIN! Oops. I incorrectly took the Sprint race to be an optional bonus race on the side. That whole thing didn't go well. Perhaps I'll do better next week. will the 4WD Calibra have an advantage in the wet? IP: Logged |

Congrats to WG - nice to see that you haven't lost your form during your long loay-off mate .Usual hats-of to all the podium guys of course but a special mention to P2 is in order I think. Since you made it into the Numbers team for the B3's you seem to have become all fired up my friend - nice to see you taking the knife to the big guns! I see that the GT40 cavalacade (sp?) is out in force. But at least there are a couple of D2's against which to measure myself. ------------------ IP: Logged |

Wow. Thanks Sukie; I was feeling down-in-the-dumps when I saw Dango's practice lap times - I'm just glad that I didn't have to run that many laps in the sprint! I'd never have held it together (and I'm not looking forward to round 5 where I'll have to!).Psy, 'way harsh, man! How about a guaranteed point for successfully completing one half of the round? After all, those guys all put in work into the series, shouldn't they get something more than anyone who didn't make an effort? jmho p2 PS. Congrats Dango on what looks like a very competitive performance... I think he was just so much "in the zone" that he forgot to stop at the finish. IP: Logged |

quote: I guess the Calibra isn't that much of an advantage in the wet then since after 10 laps the best I've been is in the 1'27s. But I had T4 and T6 tires on instead of T8s, so that might gain me a tad. I'm thinking I'll have to go to T3 and T5 tires for the feature though as this track is slightly longer than DF. I only had 20% of the power going to the front wheels. I wonder if upping that figure would help. I'll have to experiment. IP: Logged |

Doh! I didnt read the instructions properly, but I was running pretty consistant 1'09s, so in the 3 lapper a 3'37-40 is quite pluasable (assuming 10sec lost to starting lap and traffic). Maybe Dango can lend me his two extra laps? ------------------ [This message has been edited by Moppie (edited 12-15-2003).] IP: Logged |

quote: Thanks for the kind words Sukie, I put in quite a few hours of practice here, testing most of the cars. But then I could run Deep For(r)est all day. I may not have lost form during my lay-off but other people have surely gained it. Player2 and GT3Mich in particular seem to have improved a lot Congratulations to everyone who had the sense to run the GT40 and get a useful points buffer over Dango who will surely not give everyone a two lap head start next time. And well done P2 for being "best of the rest" Psy, I would give NC1 three points, Moppie two and 3rdMoparMan one for their respective positions in the Feature Race and for turning up. IP: Logged |

Hey good race! Congrats to WG for smoking the rest of us. Close one mich. Thanks to Dango for handicapping himself for the first race. I'm sure he'll pass me on the next. Does anyone have any hints on how regular tires wear on the rain tracks? (Or willing to tell me). See ya in the rain. IP: Logged |

Smooth, I've run wet races in i-link mode and was horrified to learn that the tires wear about the same as they would in the dry and that driving on red tires is just as bad too. Horrified because I lost a race I was winning through not stopping for new rubber when everyone else did. I would guess that tire wear will be worse than at DF because of the longer lap length and more corners. IP: Logged |

Doh. :smacks head: I've given away a potential advantage seeing as we can only do wet weather tire testing at SSR5 and SSR5 II and they're both banned. ![]() Still I might have saved Smooth (and others) the ignominy doing a four-stop 10 lap race IP: Logged |
